Feeling light and playful today after a great vacation. 🤍 Although I am getting much better at not overextending myself, sometimes I get just caught up in the flow and before I know it, I’m SPENT and need a reset. When I burn out like that I need to disconnect from my electronics and reconnect with nature 🍃
August is Mental Health Awareness Month and I’m back on my soap box about social media boundaries and spending time off the phone. Lately, I’ve been talking a lot about taking breaks and managing burnout. Then news is hard to swallow right now and so I am taking longer breaks from my phone, not posting on social as much, and giving myself the space to process.
In addition to working a corporate job, I don’t outsource any of my tasks as a content creator, which means I pour a lot into each post. Behind the curated images and videos there is a TON going on - I am my own model, hair + makeup artist, stylist, location scout, editor, creative director, copy editor, researcher, business administrator, contract attorney, manager, website designer, social media manger and so much more!
Why do all this? Because I Love it! And because I always want to show up in this space in a way that adds value. And in order to do that, I need to refill my cup and (frequently) take breaks.
So for anyone who needs it, this is your reminder to be gentle with yourself. Stop and rest when you need to. Acknowledge when your plate is full and know that you don’t always have to say yes to overextending. Give yourself a huge hug, because you are doing it all! I’m grateful to be here and grateful for you.
Side Note for Creators: I’m finding myself torn between posting cool news videos (in particular, Reels) and my undying affinity for still photography. I wanted to post this reel on my main feed, but it degrades the quality of the main photo image AND it zooms in too far on the grid. I wish IG would fix the cover image / crop issue. In the meantime, I’m just posting separately on my feed and in the Reels app… any suggestions or thoughts are appreciated!
