Galentine’s Day 2022 was one of the best I’ve ever had. I spent it with some of the most important people in my life. As we celebrated each other, I was struck by how important friendships with other women really are - specifically women who lift you up!
Why Galentine’s Day is Important
This idea of women needing women is best summed up in one of my favorite quotes:
“Women need other women in their lives who think they are a big deal. No competition, no backhanded compliments, no jealousy, no hate. Just, ‘I love you, I support you & there is no one on earth like you.’”
And if you really think about that quote, it’s powerful stuff. We’ve all had girlfriends who seemed to be two different people. When we’re around them, they’re our biggest fans, but when we find success, they’re our biggest detractors.
That’s not the kind of friendship we need in our lives. We’ve all had those friends, and if we’re lucky, we moved on after we realized our own self-worth.
Why Women Need Women
We live in a world that is still dominated by patriarchy. I know, I know, that term has become something that sounds like a teen angst line, but it really is true. The glass ceiling is there, and it’s real. Women are still paid less, respected less, and marginalized in many fields. To this day, we’re still portrayed in stereotypical roles in entertainment, as well.
We need women in our lives who support and lift us up because that’s how we grow. When we have a solid support system, we become more confident in our ability to take on the world. I know that my circle of friends has helped me accomplish more than I ever have before.
Galentine’s Day 2022
This Galentine’s Day 2022 was one of the most important in my life. AS I sat with my friends, taking in the beautiful view of the ocean and just enjoying the girls, I was keenly aware of how these women have helped me get through some tough times in my life and how I’ve helped them do the same. We are truly best friends, and we always have each other’s backs.
